Overview

Niagara 3218 is a Quad Segment 10 Gigabit Link aggregation TAP system capable of fully monitoring a network segment at 10 Gigabit speeds. 8 extra Link Aggregation TAP Ports are available as well for flexible port monitoring. The Niagara 3218 can support multiple TAP methodologies and configurations as well as Multi-Mode fiber and Single-Mode fiber media. The system architecture is designed for flexibility, enabling Niagara 3218 to operate in various modes including aggregation, packet injection, and multiple port monitoring. Additionally, the system supports a full suite of secure management including industry-standard management and logging tools.

Niagara 3218 supports flexible TAP and Link Aggregation options that provide Network managers, IT managers and operators high visibility into network performance and network traffic content. The unique TAP features include two main TAP options, Split TAP Mode and Aggregation TAP Mode. In addition, each TAP option can be configured to allow packet injection from the monitoring appliances. The system is designed to be upgraded to support traffic filtering in layer 2, layer 3 and layer 4.

The Niagara 3218 is managed by a 64-bit MIPS controller which supports a wide variety of control and management capabilities. The system provides flexible and intuitive CLI and GUI management features including secure web UI via an HTTPS connection, secure shell (SSH), SNMP, e-mail notification for special events, local or remote upgrade features, and failover method configuration. An authentication client capable of interfacing with authentication servers such as TACACS+ is integrated into the system. In addition, the TAP system possesses Syslog support, enabling consolidation of log data from various systems into a central repository.
