Niagara 2818PT is a Quad segment 10 Gigabit Intelligent Active Bypass Switch with high availability/redundant failover capabilities and 8 Passive TAP Ports supported for traffic monitoring. The 8 Passive TAP ports provide passive visibility into the network traffic even during power loss. The active bypass enables plug and play connectivity, includes an auto heartbeat and does not require additional drivers to be installed on connected appliances. The unit possesses management functionality that can be utilized via an extensive web GUI or CLI which enables flexibility and multiple configurations. The Niagara 2818PT passive bypass feature automatically switches the network traffic upon power failure of an attached in-line device, preserving network connectivity. The Niagara 2818PT is designed to integrate with UTM, Firewall, WAN Acceleration, QoS, IPS, IDS and Enterprise IT security appliances.

When Niagara 2818PT detects an appliance malfunction such as a software crash, system failure or loss of power, the network traffic continues to flow through the network link, but is no longer routed through the in-line device. This ensures that inline network devices can be removed and replaced without network downtime. Once the system is back up or the power is restored to the appliance, network traffic is seamlessly diverted back to the in-line device, allowing it to resume its inline functions. In addition, the Niagara 2818PT is an ideal solution for applications requiring high availability/redundancy, providing primary and secondary inline appliances with sophisticated High Availability (HA) fail-safe functionality. If an appliance connected to the primary segment fails and a secondary appliance is available, the bypass switch will automatically pass all network traffic through the secondary appliance.

Extensive Bypass Configuration

Niagara 2818PT allows for multiple bypass configurations including:

  • Bypass - fail open or fail close
  • Bypass heartbeat custom configurations including:
    • Heartbeat pattern
    • Heartbeat frequency
  • Bypass on link loss
  • Configuration of the number of heartbeats prior to disabling bypass

The Optical split ration of the passive TAP is factory configurable as follow:

  • 90% Network ports 10% TAP port
  • 80% Network ports 20% TAP port
  • 70% Network ports 30% TAP port
  • 60% Network ports 40% TAP port
  • 50% Network ports 50% TAP port
